Senior Physiotherapist and Osteopath

Alessio Gessa

I qualified as a physiotherapist (BSc) at the University of Genoa in 2016 and worked for six months in Italy before moving to the UK. Since then, I have worked in the private sector, initially as a physiotherapist and later as an osteopath after obtaining my master’s at the University College of Osteopathy in 2022.

Alongside working at Waldegrave for the last six years, I also had the privilege of joining the medical team at the Commonwealth Games in 2022 as well as the Manx Grand Prix in 2023. Between 2022 and 2024, I worked part-time as a clinic supervisor at the University College of Osteopathy.

What’s the thing you’re most passionate about in your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to help people get back to doing what they love, whether that’s completing simple daily tasks or running a marathon. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a smile on my patients’ faces and receiving a heartfelt thank you from them.

The sense of community and support within the team. We are a group of friends and colleagues who help each other, both personally and professionally.

I am extremely passionate about sports. When I’m not working, you can often find me cycling or running. I love skiing too, so a trip to the mountains is a must in the winter! I also enjoy culture, history, and traveling—I try to explore new places whenever I can, whether for a short weekend break or a longer adventure.

I may be stating the obvious here, but Italian, of course!

I would love to go to Tanzania to experience a safari and climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Cycling with my club through the countryside, a nice coffee and cake stop, and then spending time socialising with friends in the afternoon.
